CHAPTER ELEVEN

HE’D KISSED HER.

That wasn’t the part that worried Adara. It was the part where she’d wanted more. More kisses. More touching. More of everything from him.

Her traitorous heart had run amok when his lips had touched hers. And logic had totally abandoned her. She’d clung to a man who didn’t believe in commitments or putting down roots. What had she been thinking? He was a nomad and proud of it.

So even if the unfortunate incident in Paris with his sister hadn’t happened, eventually their relationship would have run its course. Just like all his other relationships. And she didn’t want her heart to end up a casualty of his inability to stay in one place.

She wished the wedding was over already, but it was still several days away. They would be very long days with Krystof on the island. And trying to avoid him was not an option, with them both participating in the wedding.

And that’s why when Sunday rolled around and it was time to listen to another musical group, she seriously considered skipping it. But this would mean relying on Krystof’s judgment to pick the right music for the wedding. From what she’d seen on Friday evening, he didn’t take this task very seriously. He was ready to pick the first group they’d heard. And though they were good, she wasn’t prepared to go with the first group without doing their due diligence. This was too important to make snap decisions.

It was with the greatest hesitation that she once more pushed off what was left of her duties that day to her assistant, who surprisingly didn’t complain. And then Adara headed toward her room at the resort to change into a sundress—something more appropriate for a concert in the park.

She was tempted to go to the park in her business clothes. She didn’t want Krystof to think she was making an effort to look nice for him. But she had been wearing a long-sleeved blouse due to the resort’s air-conditioning. It would be really warm at the park. If she were to switch into a summer dress and sandals, she’d be a lot more comfortable.

She subdued a sigh now that she’d just talked herself into dressing for their date—erm...their outing. Because there was no way she was going to date him again. She wanted more than he would ever offer.

She wasn’t getting any younger. And if she wanted to find someone to build a future with, she couldn’t waste her time with a man with commitment phobia. Krystof couldn’t even commit to having a home. The closest thing he had to a home was a suite at a Paris hotel. Who lived their life out of a suitcase?

It didn’t take her long to change clothes, but then she decided to wear her hair down and to touch up her makeup. After all, it was hard to tell who’d they run into at the park.

Knock-knock.

“Coming.” She gave her reflection one last check.

Then, with her purse in hand, she started toward the door.
